Disbursements

What is a Disbursement?

A disbursement is a payment to the student, sometimes called a refund. After financial aid and scholarship funds are used to pay authorized tuition, fees, book charges, and other charges on your student account, the remaining funds are sent to you.

How do I receive my disbursement?

Students have the option of receiving their disbursements in one of two forms either through direct deposit or through a paper check.

Direct Deposit

Students who would like to elect to receive their disbursements through direct deposit will need to complete the Direct Deposit Agreement for Student Account Refunds Worksheet. When a credit is created on your account the Business Office will initiate an ACH Transfer (Direct Deposit) for the funds to be deposited into your account.

Check

Students who would like to receive their disbursements through receiving a paper check do not have to elect this option. Upon creation of the credit on your account a check will be prepared, and the Financial Aid Office will contact you to retrieve your check when it is available.

When will I receive my disbursement?

Disbursements vary depending on when they will be released, this is due to students being required to complete the appropriate number of hours and weeks in their program before the department of education allows us to request your federal student aid. Once you have met the appropriate number of hours and weeks, we confirm this through our systems and then we request your federal student aid to be sent to the school. From the day the school requests the federal student aid we have fourteen calendar days to receive, account for, and disburse your federal student aid.

Why does it take longer for some disbursements to process?

Disbursing financial aid requires compliance with federal and state laws and rules. We must get approvals from the federal and/or state government at various stages of the process. This requires transmitting data for that approval back and forth between several systems several times. As every file is different, additional steps may be required. We work to disburse funds to students as quickly as possible.
