MODERN SALON Media has named the 2016 class of “Excellence in Education” honorees in its sixth annual program recognizing leadership and best practices among cosmetology schools. Summit Salon Academy of Tampa, Florida, was chosen to represent excellence in the category of Community Involvement, Facilities and Marketing Innovation. MODERN SALON Publisher Steve Reiss announced the honorees during the AACS (American Association of Cosmetology Schools) 2016 convention in Orlando, Florida on November 5th. Honorees were determined based on key criteria in each category, and grouped according to number of locations. Honorees were chosen in each category—one individual school location, and a multi-location school organization. “We received applications from cosmetology schools across the country and look forward to celebrating all the 2016 Excellence in Education honorees and sharing their stories. It is truly a great time to pursue a beauty education and career, and the program at Summit Salon Academy exemplifies that fact,” MODERN SALON Editorial Director Michele Musgrove says. Sharing stories of innovation, inspiration and collaboration from a diverse group of leading schools is an important part of MODERN SALON’s “Excellence in Education” mission, Musgrove explains. “We want to help spread the word about the exceptional work cosmetology schools are doing to help launch beautiful careers. We hope the professional salon industry and their communities will join us in celebrating them.” For more information about MODERN SALON Media, please visit modernsalon.com. In the wake of Regency Beauty Institute closing all 79 campuses nationwide, including Carrollwood, Summit Salon Academy of Tampa is working to determine how it may help affected students finish their educations. “We are saddened to learn Regency Beauty Institute abruptly closed its doors and we are troubled that students have been left in the lurch,” says Joanne Powers, co-owner of Summit Salon Academy of Tampa. “Summit Salon Academy has set the standard for innovative cosmetology education and we hope Regency students will consider attending our school. We want to do everything we can to ensure these students get the opportunity to complete their educations, and we are taking the necessary steps to make sure they make the best possible choice.” Affected Regency students can apply to attend Summit Salon Academy of Tampa through an expedited application process. Additionally, Summit Salon Academy Tampa will waive the enrollment fee, transfer hours and some students may be eligible for a transfer scholarship to help offset expenses already paid to another institution. “We have been in business in the Tampa Bay Area for 30 years,” says Heather Bagby, co-owner of Summit Salon Academy Tampa. “We own five salons and the school. The beauty industry is our heart, soul and passion. We want every student to be successful.” Regency students can inquire about applying to Summit Salon Academy of Tampa by calling the 813.908.8020 or Adrianna Powers, Director of Admissions at 813.928.1670. Over the past week I had the incredible opportunity to work with some of the most passionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated instructors at Summit Salon Academy in Tampa, Florida. I spent 3 days at their beautiful school training their instructors and students in the art of barbering. We worked on all of the basic barbering techniques as well as some advanced techniques. Our main areas of focus were scissor over comb, clipper over comb, straight razor head shaving, straight razor face shaving, and we even threw in a little slide cutting with a clipper… Read the entire blog article from Greg Zorian about his visit to Summit Salon Academy.
